In 1859, John Brown, a “radical abolitionist” was executed for treason. What was his crime? Attempting to free enslaved people, of course.
I hear a lot of calls for treason punishment today and all I can think is, “history doesn’t repeat but it definitely rhymes.”
We are stuck in a cycle of conflict between (freedom) givers and (freedom) takers. The interesting part is that you get to decide which group you belong to. This is NOT chosen for you.
If wishing for everyone to be free is an act against my country, then I’m definitely guilty of that one. No authority is above my own morality. Who made these rules? We’re so confused, easily led astray.
Just something to think about on this very cold 2nd day of February.
