3 tree species, some hundreds of years old (but relatively small!) living together on a Florida dune that’s been conserved. I love to see natural beaches and the way the dunes form to protect the inland areas. It’s a shame that less than a mile down the road, you can see that protective dunes were pummeled for hotels and condos “on the beach”.
A puzzling thought: when our society learns about the harms we’ve caused, often unintentionally, why don’t we scramble to correct that practice and prevent future harms? It’s like learning that a product you consume is causing cancer in your body but you keep on consuming it because that’s what you’re used to and comfortable with.
Comfort isn’t always your friend. Change can be uncomfortable but if our goal is to live better lives, we must be open to change and willing to acclimatize for the greater good, not just our immediate personal comfort.
We are only visitors to this place- yes it’s our home but it’s more like an Airbnb; before we came and after we leave, this place will continue to be home for others. Let us be gracious guests. ❤️ 🌍 ☮️ #leaveItBetter
